Kuwait halts poultry imports from Spain, Russia

Kuwait, July 30, 2009

Kuwait has suspended poultry imports from Spain and Russia after the discovery of bird flu in the two countries, the state news agency Kuna said on Thursday.

Kuwait lifted a ban on poultry imports from France and Canada, Kuna said.

'This is part of precautionary measures ... in cooperation with the World Organisation for Animal Health and its reports showing that France and Canada are free from bird flu and its emergence in Russia and Spain,' Kuna said, citing a statement from a state body in charge agriculture and fishing resources.
