Manama, March 15, 2009

The prestigious Bahrain eContent Awards ’09 will be presented at a ceremony on Monday (March 16) at the Sheraton Hotel.

The event will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT).

More than 400 entries were received by the organisers of the awards, 24 of which were selected as winners and six received special recognition, said a statement.

The winners were distributed over 10 categories, which are: eGovernment, eHealth, eInclusion, eScience, eBusiness, eBanking, eMedia, eEntertainment, eLearning, and eCulture.

The evaluation process, held over the course of three days from Jan 10 to 12 by a 13-member international judging committee at the Bahrain Technology Institute, was conducted according to the highest global standards outlined by the World Summit Awards’ (WSA) governing body, said the statement.

The winning entries will be unveiled at the ceremony, which will also be attended by several high-ranking officials from the public and private sector, including ministers, members of Parliament and Shura Council committees, and a number of leading businessmen in the Kingdom.

The WSA is a pioneering global initiative to encourage and select the best eContent in the world, and is one of the most prominent global efforts aimed at narrowing the existing digital divide, said the statement. -  TradeArabia News Service
