Abu Dhabi gets media zone

A new media zone called TwoFour 54 has opened in Abu Dhabi. The name follows the capital's geographical location – 24 degrees north of the equator and 54 degrees east of Greenwich Meridian, a report said.

The fully equipped media zone can accommodate various media sectors such as film industry, broadcasting, publishing, digital technologies and music, according to the Emirates Business report.

'As the years pass the zone will become the main centre for training, the arts and media production in the region. It is an unprecedented idea that is not available anywhere else in the world. It is a cultural initiative celebrating cultural production, the arts and stories produced by creative people to be spread around the world,' a top official said.

The zone will support the UAE's media sector.

He said that global media organisations which would open offices at the zone include CNN, Thomas Reuters Foundation, Thomson Foundation, Financial Times, Random House, HarperCollins, Rotana Studios, C Sky Pictures, Comedy Arabia, Flash and Imagenation.
