Starz Play renews Warner Bros. contract

JEDDAH, September 26, 2018

Starz Play, a fast growing subscription video-on-demand service in the Mena region, has renewed its multi-faceted contract with entertainment giant Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD).

The extended partnership hands Starz Play’s regional subscribers unlimited access to all 11 seasons of popular American sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.

As part of the deal with WBITD, Starz Play will be the only service to air the final season of The Big Bang Theory to Mena audiences on the same day as new episodes air in the US. The Big Bang Theory– which has accumulated 52 Emmy nominations and 10 wins during its 11-year run – will add to Starz Play’s comedy and entertainment billing.

“Extending our relationship with Warner Bros. and simultaneously adding 11 seasons of The Big Bang Theory to our exclusive Mena region offering highlights the enduring strength of Starz Play’s relationship with one of the world’s biggest entertainment conglomerates,” said Maaz Sheikh, co-founder and CEO, Starz Play.

“We will also be airing Season 12 exclusively in the region on the same day and date as the US, which as the show’s final run, is a great coup for Starz Play.

“Humour is universal and comedy has proven to be the most popular genre among Starz Play’s Mena subscribers time and time again. We look forward to introducing new audiences to this all-time classic and bringing the final season of The Big Bang Theory to the show’s loyal fans across the region,” he added.

“We are quite pleased that with this latest deal viewers in Mena can re-watch or discover the past seasons of ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ and they will also have access to episodes from the final season day in date with their premiere in the US,” said Jeffrey Schlesinger, president, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution. – TradeArabia News Service
