Khalifé set to mesmerise UAE audiences
Legendary Marcel Khalifé to perform at Al Majaz Amphitheatre
SHARJAH, March 29, 2016
Renowned Lebanese musician Marcel Khalifé is all set to mesmerise thousands of his fans with a live concert at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in the heart of Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah, UAE, next month.
As part of Sharjah’s efforts to promote appreciation of art and culture in the emirate, the internationally acclaimed composer, singer and oud player will perform a selection of his best loved material from the course of his 40-year career, which saw him compose and sing to lyrics by great contemporary Arab poets, including Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
The concert, which will take place on April 8, is one of a series of initiatives by Al Majaz Amphitheatre to enrich the art and cultural movement in the emirate and provide quality entertainment with a purpose to the public.
Khalifé is one of the most recognisable Arab artists who has devoted his entire talent to serve the Arabic music. At the early stages of his career, he taught at different music institutions and gave local and international solo performances on the oud. In his musical journey, he performed in Arab countries, Europe, the US, Canada, South America, Australia, and Japan, including international festivals.
His passion for music led him to not only compose symphonies but to also write books on music that reflect his avant-garde compositions and the maturity of his experience. Khalifé’s lyrical and instrumental recordings add up to more than 20 albums and DVDs. Marcel is well known for his deep attachment to contemporary Arabic poetry, the language that elevates him to the level of an ambassador of his own culture.
He received more than 15 awards for his contributions, including the National Palestine Medal, Palestine (2001) and the UNESCO Artist for Peace - Paris, France (2005).
Since its establishment in 2014, the Roman colosseum-style theatre has been dedicated to fostering a global music culture in the emirate, offering all connoisseurs of music an opportunity to enjoy world-class performances in Sharjah. It was inaugurated with the premiere of epic oratorio, Clusters of Light, and has since hosted a galaxy of Arab and International artists, including Greek musical genius Yanni.
