Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has revealed that more than 2,000 entries and 42 portfolios have been shortlisted for the ninth edition of the Emirates Photography Competition, a top professional photography competition in the world.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held in the grounds of the picturesque Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain on March 27, with their works then being featured in a dedicated Emirates Photography Competition exhibition in Manarat Al Saadiyat in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District.
Organised by TCA Abu Dhabi and held under the patronage of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), submissions are being received from individuals and photography club members from 90 countries, with all works adhering to the performance values and standards in accordance with the rules adopted by FIAP.
Bader Al Nomani, TCA Abu Dhabi Arts Department, said: “The 35,000 submissions for the ninth Emirates Photography Competition includes an array of magnificent works from across the world which have been judged by an esteemed panel to select winners across the competition’s ten categories, with a Grand Prize being awarded to the most innovative creative work participating under the main theme, Family Album.”
The ninth edition is being staged under a main ‘Family Album’ theme, chosen to reflect the community values of the family, and connect a variety of individuals and cultural environments so as to serve modern, creative artistic ideas in the field of photography.
The Emirates Photography Competition also aims to promote photography in the UAE by motivating and attracting as many photographers as possible through specialised workshops, interactive meetings and seminars as well as individual and group exhibitions.
A series of masterclasses and workshops for adults and teens are set to be held at Manarat al Saadiyat, Al Marsam Al Hor in the National Theatre, and Al Qattara Arts Centre in Al Ain.
More than 750 entries have been received from Emirati photographers competing for the highly coveted Nour Ali Rashid Award for the Emirati Photographer and the Emirati Photo Award categories which focus on the characteristic environmental and cultural components of the UAE.
Other accolades to be awarded include the Coloured Digital Photo and the Monochromatic Digital Photo Award, Creative Photographer Award, ‘Future Image by Future Eyes’ Youth Awards, Best Photographer Award, and the Photography Clubs Award, which is given to the best group participation by photography associations or clubs from around the world.
The gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three winners of each subtheme, in addition to the Grand Prize. Winners will be announced for the Best Portfolio Award and a number of honorary awards for other distinguished works. - TradeArabia News Service
