SES, Deutsche Welle in deal to transmit Arabic TV channel
LUXEMBOURG, December 15, 2015
SES, a leading satellite operator with a fleet of more than 50 geostationary satellites, has signed a co-operation with Deutsche Welle (DW) to transmit its Arabic language TV programme via the orbital position Astra 19.2 degrees East.
The DW channel will be available in Western Europe as of December 15, said a statement.
The co-operation has been designed to reach refugees coming from the Middle East. Initially, DW will transmit an Arabic-language channel focusing on information, understanding and cultural exchange.
Over the coming months, DW's Arabic-language programming will be transformed into an integration and information channel, with planned content contributions from German and European partners. The channel will then, for instance, transmit German language courses.
Norbert Hölzle, senior vice president, Commercial, Europe at SES, said: "With this project we want to contribute to providing better information and facilitating the integration of refugees.
“Deutsche Welle is an internationally esteemed partner with an excellent reputation.”
Peter Limbourg, Deutsche Welle director general, said: "Thanks to SES, we are in a position to make a high-value TV-programme available for refugees and all interested audiences.
“Conveying European values and providing access to reliable information are our objectives and our contribution to the refugees’ integration into German society." - TradeArabia News Service
