Dubai RTA chairman wins MEED Award for Leadership

DUBAI, June 2, 2015

Business intelligence service MEED has recognised the career and achievements of the chairman of Dubai’s Roads and transport Authority (RTA) Mattar Al-Tayer by presenting him with the MEED Editor’s Award for Leadership at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2015, in association with Mashreq, held in Dubai, UAE, recently.

Richard Thompson, editorial director, MEED, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to give this special award to Mattar Al Tayer.

“The MEED Editor’s Award for Leadership 2015 recognises the drive and leadership that he has provided throughout an illustrious career that has resulted in a succession of world-class, landmark projects that have changed not only the landscape of Dubai, but which have also redefined the possibilities and ambitions of urban transport across the region.

“And judging by the very warm  reception he received at last night’s awards ceremony when he came on stage to receive his award, it was clearly a popular choice.”

Since being appointed to head up the RTA as chairman in 2005, Al-Tayer has been the driving force behind the succession of major projects and initiatives that have included the Business Bay Bridge, the Dubai Metro and the Al-Suffouh tram, said a statement.

He has also led the development of pioneering intelligent transportation systems along with new policies and legislation, it said.

The RTA’s projects have also improved the quality of life of Dubai’s citizens and residents and helped Dubai rank in first place in the Mena region last year for the quality of living.

“Through its projects and other initiatives, I believe that this exceptional leader, together with his colleagues at the RTA, have established Dubai as one of the world’s leading exponents of modern thinking, innovation and best practice in delivering efficient urban transportation solutions,” Thompson added. - TradeArabia News Service
