Bahrain Pavilion at Expo Milano ... unique.
Bahrain showcased at Milan global expo
MANAMA, May 2, 2015
Bahrain's pavilion at Expo Milano 2015, an international exposition in Milan, Italy opened yesterday (May 1).
The event is being held under the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" in Italy and will run for six months, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Speaking from Milan, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa told the GDN that the pavilion was "beautiful" and focuses on Bahrain's long agricultural history.
"It's amazing, every part of it is unique," she said. "When you walk into the pavilion, you see the architecture, the agriculture film and are enveloped in the smell of jasmine. It's something amazing.”
"The level of involvement is huge. When you see people taking photographs of the pavilion - not average people, but engineers, architects and experts that don't take pictures of just anything - it makes you really proud.
"The benefit to Bahrain from this will be huge. Bahrain isn't well exposed abroad and this will showcase us to the world, and most importantly show the difference between us and other Gulf countries.
"We've made our pavilion a showcase from the days of Dilmun and Tylos, which shows our ancient history and on top of that shows our singularity.
"One of the photographers here made me laugh because he said that no matter what angle you take a picture from, it's photogenic,” she added.
The pavilion is called Archaeologies of Green and will feature agricultural and cultural heritage from Bahrain over six months of the expo, including henna decoration, Arabic coffee, basket weaving, constructing wooden boxes, folk music and Bahraini cuisine.
"There's the saying, the devil is in the details - and we really have cared about the detail here," Shaikha Mai said.
"I [can't begin to] tell you how I feel, seeing how Bahrain is being shown to the world.
"But the most beautiful part is that it's not just for Expo Milano. We built it so it could be completely taken apart and reassembled, and it will be transferred back to Bahrain so that it is a sort of botanical garden in Bahrain,” she added. - TradeArabia News Service
