His Majesty King Hamad
Bahrain launches global award for invention
LONDON, October 26, 2014
Bahrain has launched an international award for invention in recognition of His Majesty King Hamad's role in supporting innovators and motivating them to carry on with their creative work in the service of mankind.
The King Hamad International Award for Invention aims to create a world that celebrates the power of a great idea and the potential of a creative mind while encouraging inventors to continue their scientific work, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.
It was launched by King's Personal Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa at a glittering ceremony to honour participants at the British Inventions Show in London.
More than 170 participants from across the world, including Bahrain, took part in this year's event.
Shaikh Nasser said the award underlines the prominent role of His Majesty in supporting inventors and motivating them in their creative work in the service of mankind.
The award, made of pure gold, will be given in consultation with international scientific institutions, he said.
"In a world that seeks to shine the brightest line on what divides us, be it borders or ideologies, it is important to look towards what unites us as human beings," Shaikh Nasser said.
"I continue to have hope for a better future for our children and ourselves, in a world where we celebrate the power of a great idea and the potential of a creative mind."
He also announced the creation of the world's first Embassy of Invention in Bahrain, which in partnership with the British Inventors Society, will strive to make the kingdom "the cradle of global innovation where exciting ideas can be encouraged and seen to fruition in an institution that supports creativity and exploits human potential".
"This 'embassy' will seek to create an environment of innovation by becoming a hub where inventors and innovators can come together and develop their ideas,” Shaikh Nasser said.
"Additionally, this institution will concentrate on supporting the youth and encouraging them on their journey of discovery. Inventors will have access to specialist support, from designing to prototyping, commercial appraisal and investment, to name a few," he added. – TradeArabia News Service
