‘The Sound of Music’ live on stage in Qatar

The world’s best loved musical ‘The Sound of Music’ is set to go live on stage with six performances in Qatar in November.

From State Media in association with Popular Productions, a leading producers of theatre in the region, the musical will run at th Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha from November 26 to 29.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's ‘The Sound of Music’ was the recipient of five Oscars, including Best Picture. Its soundtrack s have won Platinum more than 12 times, said a statement.

Its landmark score includes songs such as ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Edelweiss’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain,’ ‘Do Re Mi’, ‘The Lonely Goatherd’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen,’ and the title song.

The musical recalls the true story of Maria and the von Trapp family and their struggles as their homeland Austria faces up to Nazi conversion during the Anschluss, just prior to the Second World War.

Featuring a host of lavish costumes and beautiful sets, a stunning live orchestra and starring a cast of 26 of the very best in London’s West End singers and actors, ‘The Sound of Music’ will include Lucy Hunter James who will play the lead role of Maria, which she played to acclaim in both Dubai and Bahrain previously.

Further casting will be announced shortly, added the statement.

It is to be produced by John Payton and Lucy Magee for Popular Productions. It is directed and musically staged by John Payton, with musical direction by Spencer James, set design by Cleo Pettit and John Payton, lighting by Paul Gould, costumes by Anna Saunders and sound by Bo Collier. - TradeArabia News Service
