Bahrain eGovt holds workshop on system development

Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) recently conducted a workshop on system development projects attended by more than 50 IT specialists of government and semi-government entities.
The workshop on ‘Policies, Standards and Best Practices for Applications Development’ by the Enterprise Architecture & Information Technology Directorate comes in line with the efforts exerted by the ICT Governance Committee (ICTGC) that aims at achieving more accomplishments in the field of IT infrastructure and development of IT systems.
During the workshop, University of Bahrain associate professor and ICTGC member Dr Ali AlSoufi presented the success factors and best practices in the field of managing development projects of systems and applications. He also presented several experiences of projects implemented in the public and private sectors as he discussed mechanisms of overcoming challenges in practical approaches.
Dr AlSoufi also stressed that IT governance is playing a key role in achieving entities’ objectives and promoting operational efficiencies as applying the governance principal will contribute to the compatibility of national projects with legal controls to protect public funds.
The workshop received positive participation with the presentation of three successful experiences of public ministries and entities.
Dr Khalid Ahmed Al Mutawah, iGA Enterprise Architecture & Information technology director presented the role of policies and standards related to development of government systems in reducing costs of developing, supporting and maintaining the systems on a short and long term in addition to their role in enhancing compatibility and integration amongst government systems and facilitating exchange of data.
Dr Al Mutawah also presented the compatibility of policies and standards to be launched with the government trend so as to invest in cloud computing based on standards to benefit from development environments available via cloud computing services. – TradeArabia News Service
