GBI, Equinix to provide cloud solutions infrastructure

MANAMA, September 14, 2015

Gulf Bridge International (GBI), a service provider that operates an integrated network connecting the world to the Middle East, will be able to provide its regional enterprise customer base with more scalable and flexible cloud solutions infrastructure.

GBI has signed an agreement with Equinix, a global interconnection and data centre company, to join the Equinix Cloud Exchange in Equinix’s Frankfurt International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre.

More and more customers in the Gulf are demanding low latency, dedicated private connection to the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region and access to multiple cloud service providers like Google Cloud Platform, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM, said a statement.

Through Equinix Cloud Exchange in the Frankfurt IBX, GBI will be well equipped to meet these needs of its customers as Frankfurt data centress are among the world’s most carrier-dense, it said.

The agreement will also make GBI the first regional service operator to offer low-latency routes, in near real-time provisioning of cloud services from multiple providers (such as Amazon Web Services) for its regional customers.

GBI will also maintain infrastructure in Equinix’s Dubai IBX data centre.

Amr Eid, chief commercial officer of GBI, said: “As the Gulf region is experiencing unprecedented economic and social media growth with cloud services growing exponentially, more and more of our regional customers are utilizing the cloud infrastructure for backup, storage, network, security and management systems.

"These customers require low latency, dedicated private connection to the Mena region and access to multiple global cloud service providers. GBI enjoys a successful relationship with Equinix and we are pleased to join the Equinix Cloud Exchange in Frankfurt IBX to serve our regional customer base.”

Jeroen Schlosser, managing director of Equinix Mena, said: "GBI will be the first service provider in the region to offer low-latency routes, in near real-time provisioning of cloud services from multiple providers (such as Amazon Web Services) for its regional customers.

"The multiple bandwidth options to accommodate peak traffic volumes and increased security for local networks will prove highly beneficial, especially for corporate IT customers. This is very exciting news, given the forecasted growth of cloud computing in the Mena region.”

Together, Equinix and GBI will provide enterprises with simple, scalable, direct access to the multiple cloud services they need to build highly flexible hybrid cloud solutions, the statement added. - TradeArabia News Service
