Menatelecom boosts core network with fibre technology
MANAMA, April 15, 2015
Broadband service provider Menatelecom has built an independent and redundant core network using fibre optics ring topology to ensure continuity of services alongside data hosting facilities, it has emerged.
In a statement, the company, an investment subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House - Bahrain, said it is operating three networks simultaneously - WiMax and 4GLTE as the two main wireless networks and another fibre network offering dedicated fast lines, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Without specifying the quantum of investment and what it was for, Menatelecom chairman Abdul Razak Jawahery said the company has invested millions in the latest telecom networks to provide high quality services to its more than 80,000 subscribers.
He said the company was the first telecom provider to launch nationwide 4G LTE, nationwide WiMAX 802.16e end-to-end network, and free on-net calls in the kingdom.
According to him, the launch of the first nationwide WiMax network in 2007 and 2008, enabled Menatelecom to increase its broadband subscribers by about 50 per cent.
“Today we provide the business sector with new solutions through an independent and diverse fibre optics network, 4G LTE network, microwave connections, and primary and backup network connectivity options,” he said.
The company's range of services includes national fixed and international calls, Internet, leased lines, and other data services.
“We are also very keen to provide on-demand connectivity round-the-clock because we value the importance of Internet connectivity, which has become a part of our daily lives,” Jawahery added.
Quoting data from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the statement said Menatelecom, along with the other telecom providers in the kingdom, have contributed four per cent to the national GDP, generating BD423 million ($1.1 billion) of revenues annually.
More than 97 per cent of businesses expressed their satisfaction with the overall telecom services level provided by the sector in the kingdom. - TradeArabia News Service
