Yahsat wins UAE's 3rd telecom licence

Abu Dhabi, March 1, 2010

The UAE has granted a 10-year licence to Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, to provide a range of voice, data, video and internet connectivity solutions in the country, said a report.

With this licence win from the UAE's Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA), Yahsat has become the third telecom operator in the country after Etisalat and Du, thus providing further choice and competition for consumers, the Emirates Business reported.

Yahsat said the licence will enable it to install, operate and manage a public telecoms network and provide satellite services in the country.

The company aims to offer a range of voice, data, video and internet connectivity solutions, including High Definition (HD) television and broadband satellite from next year.
