Etisalat launches pocket-sized modem

Etisalat, UAE’s leading telecom provider, has unveiled its Pocket HSPA Wi-Fi modem, which converts HSPA (high speed packet access) mobile signals into Wi-Fi coverage for up to five devices to access the Internet by using one SIM card.
The modem functions for various Wi-Fi devices, such as netbooks, notebooks, portable media players, handheld game consoles, personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones and cameras.
Pocket HSPA Wi-Fi modem supports a maximum downlink speed of up to 7.2 Mbps, and a maximum uplink speed of up to 5.76 Mbps, made possible by Etisalat's 3.5G mobile network.
"Etisalat is determined to offer complete end-to-end telecommunications solutions for its residential as well as business customers,” said Essa Al Haddad, chief marketing officer of Etisalat.
"We believe that executives, particularly those who need to work outside their office, and young gadget lovers will greatly appreciate this new dimension of flexibility and convenience,” he added.
“Also, HSPA- Wi-Fi modem is a perfect solution for remote offices of some small scale enterprises as the service facilitates multi-user Internet access anywhere, anytime. Etisalat will never stop innovating to make everyday life more convenient and enjoyable for its customers."
The Pocket HSPA- Wi-Fi modem device will be available from Dh749 ($204), said a statement.
The portable modem can also be plugged into a notebook via a USB cable, thereby offering simultaneous Internet access to a sixth device. Pocket Wi-Fi users can use roaming services in 120 countries around the world, the statement added. – TradeArabia News Service
