Uber announces re-launch of services in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, November 21, 2018

Uber, a leading ride-hailing technology company, has announced the re-launch of its services in the UAE capital, in collaboration with the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi – represented by the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The companies will offer convenient and reliable transportation solutions across the Emirate with a push of a button, said a statement.

The announcement followed the signing of an agreement between Uber and ITC, represented by Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi, general manager of ITC and Anthony Khoury, Uber's Middle East regional manager, at the Department of Transport headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

Additionally, with Uber’s re-launch in Abu Dhabi, Emiratis will be able to drive on the Uber app using their private vehicles on a full-time or part-time basis.

Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi, general manager of ITC, said: “This agreement underlines our commitment to achieving the forward-looking vision and aspirations of our wise leadership in transforming Abu Dhabi into a global leader in smart transportation.”

“With Uber, we are delighted to be able to provide reliable and convenient transportation solutions to residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

“All private/public vehicles and driver partners are supervised under ITC’s regulations and meet the required standards and licensing requirements,” he added.

Al Qamzi also highlighted ITC’s efforts towards strengthening partnerships with the private sector to provide integrated smart services to customers and encourage Emiratisation by providing flexible economic opportunities to Emiratis who want to drive on the Uber app on a full-time or part-time basis using their own private vehicles.

Anthony Khoury, regional manager, Uber Middle East, said: “We’re proud to announce the relaunch of Uber and bring our technology to all residents and visitors in the emirate.”

“Our collaboration with ITC is a positive result of our continuous work with the Abu Dhabi Government to provide innovative transportation solutions across the Emirate. Setting an industry benchmark within UAE’s transportation landscape, we are now able to offer convenient, reliable and affordable smart mobility solutions,” he said.

Khoury added: “Abu Dhabi is a significant market for Uber and we’re delighted to serve as catalysts for economic growth, and for Emiratis to be able to drive on the Uber app using their private vehicles.”

“This partnership allows us to further support the government’s efforts in positioning Abu Dhabi as a city that has undertaken a pioneering role in improving the quality of life through urban mobility and smart initiatives. With the re-launch of our services in the Emirate, and the launch of Uber Eats there earlier this year, we can cater to local demand and remain committed to our goal of providing efficient and innovative solution to the communities we operate in,” he concluded.

Similar to the services offered in Dubai, Uber will provide reliable and convenient transportation solutions to riders across Abu Dhabi by connecting them to any destination within other Emirates.

Reflecting the DoT’s commitment to implement smart and safe transportation solutions, this collaboration with Uber is aligned with the Abu Dhabi’s smart transportation strategy.

Uber’s product and service offerings are part of an ongoing effort to provide integrated transportation solutions that meet customer requirements as well as contribute towards the nation’s overall economic development, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
