The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is in the final stages of reaching an agreement with the Egyptian Ministry of Transportation to fund a key part of the Cairo Metro project, said a report.
The new financial agreement includes the purchase of six trains for the second line of the Cairo Metro, reported Daily News Egypt, citing a senior official.
"We are discussing the terms and hopefully we will finalise the agreement in the next couple of weeks," said Janet Heckman, managing director of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region at the EBRD, after a crucial meetng with the ministry officials.
"EBRD is quite positive about opportunities to cooperate with the Ministry of Transportation, as the traffic issue is critical in Cairo and Alexandria," she added.
