Fujairah foreign trade up 5.9pc in 2017

The total foreign trade of Fujairah during 2017 was valued at Dh14.377 billion ($3.91 billion), 5.9 per cent higher than the 2016 figure of Dh13.577 billion ($13.57 billion), according to the 2017 Yearbook issued by the Fujairah Statistical Centre.
Direct foreign trade rose from Dh5.995 billion ($1.63 billion) in 2016 to Dh6.372 billion ($1.73 billion) in 2017, an increase of 6.3 per cent, reported state news agency Wam.
Of this, imports accounted for Dh2.939 billion ($800.1 million), up 19.03 per cent from Dh2.469 billion ($672.20 million), exports Dh992 million ($270.07 million), down 15.5 per cent from Dh1.174 billion ($319.62 million), and re-exports Dh2.439 billion ($664.03 million), up 3.74 percent from Dh2.351 billion ($640.07 million).
Trade through the Fujairah Free Zone was worth Dh8.005 billion ($2.18 billion) in 2017, up by 5.87 per cent from the 2016 figure of Dh7.561 billion ($2.06 billion).
Imports were valued at Dh4.502 billion ($1.23 billion), up 12.1 per cent from Dh4.016 billion ($1.09 billion), exports were virtually level, at Dh3.435 billion ($935.20 million) in 2017 and Dh3.436 billion ($935.4 million) in 2016, while re-exports fell sharply from Dh109 million ($27.67 million) in 2016 to Dh66.98 million ($18.23 million) in 2017, a decline of 38.55 per cent, added the report.
