Jumbo names new offshore vessel
AMSTERDAM, April 22, 2018
Netherlands-based Jumbo, a leading and family owned heavy lift shipping company, has revealed the winner of the competition for naming its new DP2 heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV), which will be delivered in the first quarter of 2020.
Last month the company launched an internal naming competition so that all Jumbo employees from around the world could submit up to three vessel name entries, said a statement from Jumbo.
Having received over 250 entries, the company’s managing director Michael Kahn, along with the competition committee made a top three list, and then chose one overall winning name: Stella Synergy, it said.
The winning name was entered by Jiovanni Pardillo who has worked with Jumbo as an AB crew member since 2006, it added.
Kahn telephoned Pardillo in the Philippines to wish him congratulations personally and to inform him that he will receive a cash prize of €2,500 ($3,096.88). This figure refers to the 2,500 tonnes lifting capacity of the main crane on the new vessel, said a statement.
A model of Stella Synergy will be on display at the upcoming OTC exhibition in Houston, US, which will be held from April 30 to May 3.
Kahn said: “Stella Synergy is a beautiful name that captures the many elements of our company’s spirit. It symbolises us 50 years ago when we started as pioneers in the heavy lift industry with our first ‘Stella’ vessel.”
“It also symbolises the complementary relationship between today’s shipping and offshore divisions, as well as the cooperation of the two families, namely Borchard and Kahn,” he added.
“Most of all, Stella Synergy symbolises what we strive to achieve when we work together with our clients and as a team,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
