Expo 2020 Dubai launches new career portal

DUBAI, March 14, 2018

Expo 2020 Dubai has launched a new career portal making it easier for candidates to apply for jobs ranging from entry to director level.

The Expo 2020 team currently comprises 850 employees, 454 of whom are directly employed by Expo 2020. The remainder include external consultants engaged by Expo 2020 to deliver the large-scale, time-sensitive event, which will be the first World Expo to take place in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, said a statement.

Rita Penteado, director, human resources, workforce and volunteers, Expo 2020, said: “We are looking for ambitious people who want to create a global impact and work in a fast-paced environment where expectations are high.”

“Expo 2020 Dubai is a unique, time-critical project and our key objective is to not only deliver an exceptional Expo but also create a compelling and long-lasting legacy. We need people who are flexible and adaptable, who like to be challenged, and who share our core values of integrity, cooperation, respect, humility and excellence,” she said.

“Even if the positions currently available on the Expo 2020 career portal do not suit applicants’ skill sets, they can still register and upload their résumés. Our requirements are continuously evolving and growing so we will no doubt need capabilities in the future that we don’t yet know about,” she added.

With global attention already focused on Expo 2020 Dubai and the UAE, the team is committed to delivering an unforgettable experience with 25 million visits expected, including an unprecedented 70 per cent from outside the UAE.

Those who join the ranks of Expo 2020 will enter a dynamic, multicultural environment, with employees representing 57 nationalities, it said.

Expo 2020 is also a proud supporter of equal opportunities for women and youth. Of those directly employed by Expo 2020, 51 per cent are female and 129 staff members are under the age of 30. Expo 2020 is also contributing to the UAE Government’s Emiratisation strategy by continuing to provide exciting job opportunities for UAE nationals, with multiple positions that will help to cement the country’s long-term success.

World Expos attract the best talent from around the world. Whether experienced professionals or ambitious graduates, successful applicants will acquire considerable expertise in a short period of time.

Alya Al-Ali, director, Youth Connect at Expo 2020, said: “Expo 2020 Dubai offered me the unique opportunity to join straight from university at only 21 years of age.”

“I became a director at 24 and I am now responsible for running the department that ensures young people play a central role in Expo 2020. Expo truly empowers youth and enables people from around the world to progress in ways they might not imagine are possible at their age,” Al-Ali said.

“Expo 2020 also offers development and training programmes that open new career paths. With less than three years to deliver one of the greatest World Expos in history, we are always challenging and pushing ourselves to exceed expectations – building a great variety of skills and gaining important international exposure. Expo 2020 is a real accelerator for our careers,” Al-Ali added.

Expo 2020’s career portal features vacancies within a variety of fields, including information and communication technology (ICT), marketing and communication, design, operations, legal and commercial, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
