Italy plans to set up food units in Qatar

DOHA, January 22, 2018

Italy plans to establish manufacturing facilities in the fields of agriculture and the food industry in Qatar, said a senior official.

Apart from political and economic relations, Qatar and Italy aim to further co-operation ties in the food manufacturing sector, Italian Ambassador to Qatar Pasquale Salzano, was quoted as saying in a Gulf Times report.

Salzano was speaking on the sidelines of the recently concluded Expo Turkey by Qatar 2018.

He added that Italy wants to bring technology and best practices in the field of agriculture and the food industry in Qatar and vice-versa, and to export Qatari products to Italy.

Salzano noted that while the plan to set up the manufacturing facilities is still in the negotiation stage, a high-level delegation from Qatar’s industrial sector will travel to Italy by the end of the year to explore investment opportunities there.

He further pointed out that the visit also aims to entice Italian companies to set up shop in Qatar and for Qatari companies to establish themselves in Italy.
