DWC nine-month cargo traffic up 9.1pc

Cargo traffic at Dubai World Central (DWC) grew 9.1 per cent during the first nine months of the year, according to the traffic report issued today by operator Dubai Airports.

DWC handled a total of 704,735 tonnes of freight year to date September, an increase of 9.1 per cent compared to 645,698 tonnes during the corresponding period in 2016.

Passenger traffic at DWC totalled 649,627 in the first nine months of the year, a growth of 7.9 per cent compared to 602,228 passengers recorded during the corresponding period in 2016. Eastern Europe was the top contributor to the traffic at DWC with 253,650, followed by the GCC (174,563 passengers), and Middle East (82,978 passengers).

During the period under review, some of the top destination cities for passenger volumes were Moscow (87,422 passengers), Kathmandu (58,534 passengers), and Amman (42,832 pax).

 Flight movements during the first nine months of the year reached 24,875, down 15.3 per cent compared to 29,380 during the same period in 2016. Between January and September, the average passengers per flight grew by 29.9 per cent to 120 compared to 93 during the same period last year.

 A total of four passenger carriers operate an average of 74 flights weekly to 18 international destinations across 12 countries from DWC, which is also home to 23 scheduled cargo operators that fly to as many as 68 destinations around the world. - TradeArabia News Service
