Coastal Qatar, a specialised local manufacturing and construction company, has been awarded a major contract to manufacture a total of 140,000 seats for three of the venues for the 2022 Fifa World Cup matches.

The seats will be manufactured in a Doha-based state-of-the-art factory that will produce 500 seats a day to cater to three proposed host venues: Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium - Al Khor City and Al Rayyan Stadium.

The contract for the 'Made in Qatar' seats was awarded by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).

As per the deal, Coastal Qatar will not only supply, but also install and maintain the seats in all the three stadiums.

SC said the proposed stadiums for Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah will have 40,000 net seating in tournament phase and Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City with 60,000 net seating.

Hassan Al Thawadi, the SC secretary general, said: "We are very proud to announce that these seats for the 2022 Fifa World Cup will be made in Qatar. In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, we are continuously working to contribute to the economic growth of the country in terms of manufacturing and a wide variety of other sectors."

"Creating an impact on Qatar’s economy was a key component in our bid to win the Fifa World Cup hosting rights," observed Al Thawadi.

"By facilitating local contractors and companies to take part in the construction of the infrastructure for the tournament, we are delivering one of our key legacy commitments and ensuring the benefits of the 2022 Fifa World Cup are felt across the country," he added.

On the contract win, Sheikh Mansour bin Jabor Al Thani, the chairman of Coastal, said: "It is an honour to be selected to provide the seats for three of Qatar’s futuristic stadiums for 2022 with technology transfer from Forum Seating."

“Our goal is to be one of the leading and most innovative companies in our sector in the country, with the capabilities to absorb knowledge from leading international companies and transfer that knowledge locally. The main principle of our company is to always promote the brand ‘Made in Qatar’ internationally and continue our commitment to the highest quality of our products,” he noted.

Coastal’s sports seating factory has been established in Qatar’s industrial area for manufacturing stadium seating that will be used at several proposed venues for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

The facility was inaugurated at an event on Wednesday and attended by representatives of major stakeholders that will contribute to the successful delivery of the first tournament in the Middle East, including Qatar Rail, Ashghal, Lusail, Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatar Foundation.-TradeArabia News Service
