DUBAI, November 27, 2016
Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has announced that it will be cooperating with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in supporting and globally promoting the ‘Maritime Dubai’ initiative.
The partnership aims to spur leadership in the development of a renewable, safe and sustainable maritime sector and help position Dubai among the ranks of the world’s best maritime capitals.
The Dubai Maritime Cluster Office is designated by the DMCA to manage Maritime Dubai on top of its basic tasks and responsibilities in implementing the Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy, the main pillar in strengthening Dubai’s competitiveness as one of the world's most important maritime centres.
Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and President of DMCA, said: “Maritime Dubai provides an integrated framework for the development of maritime policy and coordination between government entities and local, regional and international organizations concerned with maritime and free zones affairs to promote relevant maritime sector activities. This is all in line with the ambitious aspirations for advancing the contributions of the maritime sector to economic diversification and the path to an ‘Emirates beyond oil’.”
Hamad Buamim, president and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said: “By cooperating with the Dubai Maritime City Authority, we have laid the foundation for the unification of efforts to promote Dubai’s advantages as a global maritime hub, supported by a sophisticated legislative and economic environment and advanced infrastructure that make it a preferred choice for regional and international investors and ship owners and operators.”
“We look forward to making Maritime Dubai a global initiative that will significantly boost our tireless efforts to advance business growth and attract new investments that drive economic diversification in line with the national movement towards building a sustainable economic model that will uplift Dubai's status as one of the most important business centres in the world by the year 2021,” he added.
Maritime Dubai is a unique initiative that primarily aims to encourage members to engage in new business through trade promotion and attract more owners and operators of ships and shipping companies to take advantage of the strengths and competitiveness of Dubai’s maritime sector.
It also focuses on promoting Dubai as a global centre for maritime training as well as facilitating communication between parties engaged in global maritime affairs. Maritime Dubai will also be involved in the organization of international events that will update members on the latest maritime developments and information. – TradeArabia News Service
