ABU DHABI, December 20, 2015

The UAE Ministry of Interior has called upon owners and drivers of foreign trucks and trailers to get acquainted with the Saudi technical regulations pertaining to protective devices in their vehicles while crossing into the kingdom.

The technical regulations released by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation (Saso) for the underrun protective devices in trucks, bearing the following technical specifications numbers are as follows: Saso-GSO 2112:2012 "Motor Vehicle- front under run protective devices in trucks and its testing methods; (Saso-GSO 2113:2012) "Motor Vehicles-Lateral Protection of Truck and Trailer and its testing methods"; and Saso-GSO 2114:2012) "Motor Vehicles Rear underrun protective devices for truck and trailer and its testing methods.

The new rules will come into force from April 9 next year, said the ministry, citing an official confirmation from Saudi authorities.

Once the rules get implemented, trucks and trailers that fail to comply with and violate the technical regulations and standards will be banned from entering the country.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, the director general of Traffic Co-ordination in the Ministry of Interior, pointed out that the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (Esma) had adopted these specifications as standard specifications for the UAE in 2011.

“The UAE has implemented specifications in accordance with the Ministerial decision No. 12 of 2015 on the UAE System for the Control on Trailers and Semitrailers to achieve maximum safety, preserve the lives of drivers and road users and reduce injuries resulting from traffic accidents for vehicles, especially trucks,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
