Three vessels...make trips every 15 days

New Oman-Iran shipping route to be set up

MUSCAT, April 27, 2015

The chambers of commerce of Iran and Oman along with an Iranian private sector shipping company have signed a deal to form a new shipping route next month between the Sultanate’s Sohar Port and Iran’s souther port of Shahid Rajae, according to a report.

The shipping line will be used to transit agricultural products and perishable goods between the two countries, said the Oman Daily Observer report.

“Three vessels, including two container ships and a bulk carrier, will start making trips between Shahid Rajaee and Sohar Port every 15 days in the initial phase,” Abdolhossein Khedri, chief executive officer of Khedri Jahan Darya Shipping, the private Iranian company involved in the agreement, was quoted as saying.

“The trips could be held on a weekly basis if Iranian businesses welcome this scheme and in order to meet the demands of Iran’s export plans,” he said.

The deal was signed during the visit of a major delegation comprising 60 businessmen to for talks on expanding trade and commercial cooperation between the two countries, said the report.

The companies are operating in a variety of fields including agriculture, education, construction, infrastructure and tourism, in addition to food stuff, finance, banking and investment, it added.
