Sharjah event to highlight local industry
Sharjah, September 29, 2010
The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) will host the Made in Sharjah Show, an event that will showcase the Emirate’s locally made products and services.
The event, which is being held in collaboration with Sharjah Expo Center, will target the participation of the emirate’s industrial establishments; previous winners of the Sharjah Economic Excellence Award (SEEA); and SCCI members whose products and services are currently on display at the permanent exhibition of local products at the chamber’s headquarters.
The exhibition will provide participants an opportunity to showcase and market their products to key suppliers and traders from local and regional markets and also meet directly with different UAE consumers.
“The number of industrial establishments in the UAE has reached 4,640 and has given employment opportunities to more than 347,000 people. This success is equally shared by the emirate of Sharjah, which is being looked at as the country’s model for the industrial sector,” said SCCI chairman Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa.
“The Made in Sharjah Show is part of the SCCI’s commitment to provide local businesses with a platform where they can promote their products and services—stirring more economic activity and helping double the rate of contribution to the country’s GDP,” he added.
Aside from Sharjah-based businesses, the exhibition will also feature SMEs from other parts of the UAE.
The event will also highlight the launching of the new Made in Sharjah slogan; a branding activity that is expected to help promote the quality of local products and their competitive prices and help strengthen business ties between producers, local exporters and importers from other countries.
The head of the local chamber further pointed out that the strong show of support coming from both the local and private sector have helped make the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular, an ideal investment destination in the Middle East region.
Sharjah is now recognized as a model for the industrial sector with over 1,454 registered industrial establishments, Dh81 billion ($22 billion) worth of investments and a workforce of 82,000 people, he pointed out.
