Abu Dhabi, US institute to share shipping skills
Abu Dhabi, April 1, 2010
Abu Dhabi Department of Transport (DoT) has signed an MoU with Texas A&M University’s Texas Transportation Institute (TTI), a leading shipping research institution, to gain access to information and expertise.
Under the terms of the MoU, TTI will cooperate with the DoT in sharing information and expertise as well as providing training related to road planning, design, construction, maintenance and safety.
TTI will also exchange experience in construction standards and operational policies; conducting field studies on roads, bridges, and road safety; and supplying technical support and expertise in implementing road projects.
The memorandum was signed on the side line of Transport Research Board Conference in Washington DC, USA by DoT main roads division director Faisal Ahmed Al-Suwaidi and TTI director Dennis Christiansen.
“We aim to develop one of the best transportation networks not only in the region but in the entire world,” said Faisal Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, DoT main roads division director.
“This necessitates the formation of strategic partnerships with global organisations such as TTI that can broaden our technical and theoretical capabilities,” he added.
“We intend to identify best-practice elements, key skills, and innovative strategies from within TTI’s extensive database of transport development studies which we can integrate into our own development agenda,” he concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
