Ducab to supply cables for Al Raha project

Ducab said it has signed a strategic manufacturer agreement (SMA) with Aldar Laing O’Rourke Construction (ALOR) to supply LV wires and power cables for the company's Al Raha Beach development project.

Ducab is a leading manufacturer of high quality power cables in the Middle East. As per the agreement, Ducab will supply ALOR with LV wires and power cables worth Dh100 million ($27.2 million) per annum.

Commenting on the agreement, Ducab’s managing director, Andrew Shaw said: “As the first supplier of 22KV cables in Abu Dhabi, we are thrilled that ALOR chose Ducab to be their sole cable supplier for the Al Raha Beach development.'

'The modern concept behind this new development is not only very sophisticated but with several breathtaking buildings, the sheer size of this development represents an exciting time ahead for us all,' he added.

Andrew Shaw, Ducab’s managing director, and Ken Farey, head of procurement, Aldar/Laing O’Rourke JV signed the agreement at Al Raha Beach development project site office in Abu Dhabi.

Also present were John O’Connor, commercial director of ALOR, Simon Draycott, commercial manager, Aldar and David Lee from EC Harris, appointed to provide the commercial management services on the project.

ALOR chief executive officer Chris Wilkinson said, 'We recognize the benefits that accrue from this kind of supply chain partnership arrangements and look forward to developing our working relationship with Ducab to cover other projects.'

The Al Raha Beach development project has 11 precincts that includes Al Raha Beach Development, Mussafah Labour Camp, Motorworld Development and covers a built-up area of 12 million sq m.

The project will require nearly 70km of 22Kv cables. Covering over 570 hectares of land, this mixed use development will be the new gateway to Abu Dhabi and will be completed in 2015, he added.

The project includes an 11km long coastline development that will house iconic buildings such as the Abu Dhabi World Trade Center, Aldar’s new Head Quarters, Luxury waterfront villas and Hotel and apartment properties.-TradeArabia News Service
