Emirates Shipping Line grows by 30pc

Dubai, December 5, 2007

Emirates Shipping Line’s operations have grown by 30 per cent since its inception in 2006.

This success has been attributed to eight new services launched during the previous 12 months.

As a result, the company, which is registered in Dubai Maritime City and commercially headquartered in Dubai and Hong Kong, is on track to double its container capacity within the next two years and boost its agency network, which currently spans more than 40 countries, said an official spokesman.

The announcement comes only weeks after the company’s CEO and chairman Vikas Khan received the 'Personality of the Year' Award by Dubai Ports World at the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards 2007.

The Personality of the Year Award recognises individuals for their contributions to the maritime industry.

The award was presented to Vikas Khan by executive vice-chairman of DP World & Group Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah who sponsored this category at the gala dinner attended by over 1,000 delegates from all sectors of the international maritime community.

The honour is another milestone for the company, which has already received three nominations for coveted industry awards during 2007, including the ‘Container Shipping Line of the Year’ in the Lloyds List Asia Awards; ‘Shipping Line of the Year’ in the Supply Chain Asia-Logistics Award; and ‘Shipping Company of the Year’ in the Lloyd’s List Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Shipping Awards.

The achievement was made possible only by the outstanding teamwork of all colleagues of Emirates Shipping Line, said Khan. – TradeArabia News Service
