DWC gets latest GPS technology

Dubai, September 4, 2007

Dubai World Central (DWC) has tied up with Dubai Municipality's state-of-the-art Geographical Information Systems (GIS) department to provide the latest e-mapping technology.

Real time aerial and satellite images along with global positioning (GPS) coordinates will enable DWC staff and contractors to minutely identify utility services, urban land plans and land use blueprints within this massive development centred around Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) – set to be the world’s largest.

“In keeping with the complete strategic organisation of government resources and coordination of all Dubai Government departments, in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, Dubai Municipality’s e-MAP project for DWC is a testament to how government departments can work closely together,” said Dubai Aviation Corporation chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

“Dubai Municipality’s e-MAP gateway, in providing GPS coordinates of all DWC sites, will allow the huge Dubai World Central project to be completed in accordance with the latest global positioning systems technologies,” said Dubai Municipality deputy director-general Hussein Lootah.

The organisation of government resources and departments, including infrastructure planning, means that projects in and around Dubai World Central will be completed to the highest level of safety and environmental consciousness.

“Dubai World Central’s infrastructure and facilities management division aims to ensure that we take care of our environment while we complete this massive project in line with Dubai’s strategy for the future; this means that energy, health and safety take priority in our ongoing project,” said Rashed Buqara’a, CEO of infrastructure and facilities management at Dubai World Central.

“Working with Dubai Municipality’s GIS department will allow us to view real time changes to the infrastructure being laid down at DWC. More so, we will be able to guarantee that our progress remains environmentally friendly and safe.”

The GIS department will host all geographical data for DWC on dedicated high performance servers which allow data access using the latest data retrieval technology, in addition to providing satellite images.

“The e-Map project will provide geographical data for DWC through a dedicated e-gate, available around the clock to pre-verified DWC staff with detailed information of land registration and document extraction. In addition, client relations management forms can be accessed to provide customers and tenants with up-to-date real time information,” said Mohammed Al Zaffin, director of GIS Centre at Dubai Municipality.

“With the current real estate and property boom, DWC’s real estate division will receive the current information for on-site development and planning enabling contractors to speed up their construction activity.”

Currently, JXB’s first runway is nearing completion in addition to work underway on the cargo terminal, passenger terminal, Dubai Logistics City Head Quarters and Office Park, roads and other infrastructure. – TradeArabia News Service
