Dubai Carbon, Innogy unit in green tie-up

DUBAI, November 5, 2017

Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) and Innogy International Middle East, the advisory arm of Germany’s largest power provider, have partnered as part of the ongoing sustainability and green economy efforts in Dubai, UAE.

Bit.B is an innovative start-up backed by Innogy and focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT). Bit.B leverages a new wireless protocol known as Lemonbeat to allow for connectivity across a multitude of third party sensors.

As process and cost-efficient energy monitoring system for business customers, it will be incorporated into the Hatta Rooftop Solar Project, marking the official arrival of the bit.B product in the regional market.  The software will be initially installed on pilot villas to measure their photovoltaic (PV) production and performance. Additionally, the innovative product will be placed on Safaqat portal in line with the agreement.

Bit.B is designed to be connected to every available sensor in the market today to effectively measure output signals, air quality, and humidity. It works by collecting production, environmental, or energy data from individual machines or main and sub distributions for insight generation and analysis. Bit.B's main objective is to provide new valuable knowledge for operational optimisation within a company or organisation.

Ivano Iannelli, CEO of DCCE said: “You can't manage what you can't measure is often used as a management mantra and it is important for our projects to be capable of leveraging a strong dataset to demonstrate the value of technological maturity.

“By integrating the bit.B into the Hatta Rooftop Solar initiative, we will leverage a new potential technology to allow the internet of things to help us gather essential data to boost our initiatives aimed at conserving energy, fully optimising production, and enhancing efficiency according to the government’s environmental goals. We can fast-track our key environmental agendas and make informed decisions that will help advance our sustainability goals thanks to our collaborative efforts with our new renowned partner institution.”

Pierre Samaties, CEO of Innogy International Middle East, said: “Our vision is to become a leader of the Smart Living transformation. Through our strategic partnership with Dubai Carbon we will showcase how bit.B. can add valuable smart features to the prestigious Hatta project.

“Bit.B. is an innovative sensor-based data management solution that will pave the way for transparency and a variety of evaluations and analyses by combining all data collected from sensors and meters. Such a system will allow for a detailed overview and new approaches to save energy and achieve production optimizations.”

“We are very proud to showcase bit.B for the first time in the Middle East. The Hatta project provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate the value bit.B can add,” added Michael Kryzstof, head of bit.B.

DCCE was established under the guidance of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) to bolster the transition of Dubai and the UAE to a low-carbon and green economy through knowledge consolidation. – TradeArabia News Service
