UAE to sign new global deal on climate

DUBAI, April 6, 2016

The UAE is set to sign the Conference of Parties (COP) 21 global climate agreement on April 22, adopted by more than 195 countries at last year's climate change summit in Paris, according to a report.

The deal aims at reducing global warming and is expected to replace Kyoto Protocol that will end in 2020, Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, was quoted as saying, in the Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.

Dr Al Zeyoudi made the statement while inaugurating the recently held Dubai WoodShow.

The UAE has been financing more than 30 renewable energy projects worth $840 million in 28 emerging countries under a funding programme launched six years ago, said the report.

The show focused on sustainability of wood resources at a time when the building and contracting industries in the UAE use more timber compared to other resources.

It also highlighted 'green building' solutions and the contribution of wood in this concept.
