Investments in GCC healthcare urged

DOHA, January 28, 2016

More investments in healthcare in the Gulf has been urged, as healthcare plays a vital role in building up a strong economy, according to an expert.

At the ongoing Arab Health Exhibition in Dubai, UAE, Moataz Al-Khayaat, chief executive officer, Qatar-based UrbaCon Trading and Contracting, said: "The investment in the health sector significantly supports th Gulf economy so investments should be increased including building of new hospitals and medical research facilities.

“As an example, Qatar spent $5.2 billion (QR19 billion) on healthcare in 2015 on private and public projects, so we can imagine the importance of this sector as it leads to an improvement in labor productivity and output per worker.”

The growing population will need more and more health infrastructure in GCC in the coming years and the private sector can help to increase the modern healthcare infrastructure," he said.

UrbaCon Trading & Contracting has been involved in several huge projects over the last few years and has become one of the most respected building contractors in Qatar.

In addition to the Mall of Qatar, included among its projects are the Banana Island Resort, the Sheraton Doha Hotel and Convention Center, and the Lekhwiya Stadium at Al Duhail. - TradeArabia News Service
