Innovation highlighted at green leadership event

The latest Green Leadership Series event, organised by Dubai Green Economy Partnership (DGEP) and EnPark, a member of Tecom Investments, highlighted the role of innovation in the green economy.
The event focused on innovation aimed at inspiring the green economy market to invest in the latest clean technologies and innovative business practices and government policies.
Delegates from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), Dubai Municipality, ABB and other organisations presented various innovative green technologies to help reduce the carbon footprint and assist in establishing Dubai as a Green Economy hub. More than 150 people attended the event, organised by DGEP in association with EnPark.
“The Green Leadership Series is a series of events aimed to bring to the market best practices in green economy and a forum for discussion and knowledge sharing. This serves as a common ground for industry leaders to share their knowledge with the others,” said Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, secretary general of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and Chairman of the Dubai Green Economy Partnership.
Speaking at the event, Marwan Abdulaziz, executive director of EnPark and founding member of the Green Economic Partnership said: “Innovation is at the core of everything we do at EnPark and Tecom Investments, with plans to invest Dh4.5 billion ($1.22 billion) in new innovation focused initiatives. It is part of Dubai’s long term vision going forward and we are committed to making it a central theme in the UAE’s green economy.
“We thank all the organisations who attended the Green Leadership Series and those demonstrating various innovative techniques to help minimise the carbon footprint of an organisation.”
Dubai Municipality presented its initiatives on green concrete and a 3D software platform to easily understand green building regulations, and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation) presented its Global Cleantech Innovation Programme, DEWA spoke about the smart grid and the electric vehicles (EV) charging stations, and ABB presented the solar plane initiative which enabled the historic solar-powered flight around the world to take off from Abu Dhabi recently.
In addition to this, DSCE presented the Dubai Sustainable Energy Model and the government’s role in driving public-private partnership initiatives. The thought leadership discussion, moderated by EnPark’s Marwan Abdulaziz, brought together ACWA, the innovation centre in5 which supports the entrepreneurial ecosystem, engineering consultants WSP-Parson Brinckerhoff, and the Rochester Institute of Technology that belongs to SOA and Eltete.
Dubai Green Economy Partnership is the first multi-stakeholder and cross sector partnership to promote the transition to a green and low-carbon economy in the Middle East. The programmes and initiatives of Dubai Green Economy Partnership aim to enable the growth of green trade and investment and accelerate the adoption of green technologies, products and services across regional and global markets.
