Apex, US firm partner for health complex

Muscat, October 4, 2012

Apex Medical Group, a unit of Al Joaib Holding, and Methodist International, a subsidiary of US-based Methodist Hospital have partnered for the development and operations of a healthcare complex in Salalah.

Previously known as The Medical City (TMC), the project has been proposed by the Apex Medical Group (AMG) and is under development in strategic partnership with the Ministries of Tourism and Health in Oman since 2009.

Located East of Salalah, the International Medical City (IMC) will offer a comprehensive continuum of specialised medical and surgical services through its new large multispecialty acute tertiary care hospital along with an organ transplantation center of excellence, a rehabilitation and diagnostic center of excellences.

In addition, the IMC facilities will include a state-of-the-art diagnostic center, a healthcare resort and a healthcare education complex. Furthermore, the IMC will also feature a luxury hotel, wellness center, and free medical and educational community support services to poor families.

Methodist International will be at the core of program management to coordinate development and implementation activities. Methodist International will set up the management and operation system of the tertiary care hospital including the recruitment and training of hospital C-suite staff.

Leadership development, clinical integration and medical management models will also be implemented.  A clinical and administrative team of consultants from Houston will focus on the development and establishment of clinical, operational and quality standards for the multispecialty hospital.

Following the opening of the hospital, Methodist International will be involved in a 10 year affiliation focused on quality, training and knowledge transfer management.

Dr Abdulla Al Joaib, president of Al Joiab Group said, “Our colleagues at Methodist International are world-renowned experts in the medical field and we are extremely proud to be working with them on this project for the International Medical City.”

He added that through this partnership IMC will offer training opportunities to Omani doctors and nurses in the Methodist Hospital system in Houston, Texas.

Cathy Easter, CEO and president of Methodist International said “The partnership between Methodist International and Apex Medical Group brings together two organizations with a shared vision for world class quality and differentiated services.”

“Methodist International is committed to providing leading medicine coupled with the finest healing skill and compassion in health care. Our new partnership will support the progress of health care services in Salalah and Oman.” – TradeArabia News Service
