Dubai, Abu Dhabi to unify medical licences

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Health Authority -Abu Dhabi (HAAD) have joined forces towards mutual recognition of medical licences and unification of licensure procedures for healthcare practitioners working in the two emirates.

Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, director-General of the Dubai Health Authority and Zaid Daoud Al Siksek, chief executive officer  of the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi, signed the contract today at the DHA headquarters.

Al Murooshid said, “The move will significantly benefit the health sector in the UAE as healthcare practitioners who work in Abu Dhabi can now easily apply for a license to practise in Dubai and vice versa.”

“This can be done through a simple registration process. They will be exempt from primary source verification and assessment, which makes the procedure less time consuming and hassle free and facilities movement of healthcare professionals across both the Emirates.”

Al Siksek said that signing the MOU between HAAD and DHA aims at improving the cooperation between the two entities and enhances benefits to the Emiratis in general and the health care professionals and the local community in particular.

He added: “This MOU would raise the level of healthcare professionals’ performance through exchanging experiences, programs and the best working mechanisms used in both Authorities.”

Dr Ramadan Ibrahim, director of DHA Health Regulation said: “This collaboration is a step in the right direction as it provides healthcare professionals with great convenience to practise in both the Emirates. This is especially beneficial for highly qualified specialists who would like to extend their services to the population living in both the Emirates.”

Dr Ibrahim said presently there are 18,000 licensed professionals in the private and government health sector in Dubai. – TradeArabia News Service
