Muscat, March 23, 2009
Muscat Private Hospital (MPH) performed its first cardiac surgery recently.
Performing an open heart surgery at Muscat Private Hospital is a milestone for the private healthcare sector as this is the first time such a complex surgery has been performed in Oman.
“Having the infrastructure to perform an open heart surgery means that Muscat Private Hospital has entered a new phase in its development in that the hospital can treat higher acuity patients which will benefit both the government and private sectors,” stated Gary Dorahy, country manager - OMPC and hospital director, MPH.
The many cardiac services provided at MPH range right from coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valves surgery, major blood vessels disease and the surgical correction of congenital heart malformations. Thoracic and lung surgery can also be performed.
The Ministry of Health has inspected the cardiac surgery facilities and approved the programme.
“Our Cardiac Surgery Programme provides full cardiac services to patients in the Sultanate. It helps us meet the needs those affected in Oman, rather than sending them abroad for treatment,” added Gary.
'I always thought that heart surgery is a very complex and difficult procedure, but the expert doctors at MPH made it easy,' said Mrs Azhar Ibrahim, the first patient to undergo cardiac surgery.
MPH has the best and latest equipment to ensure successful surgery and post surgical recovery and boasts of a 24-hour Critical Care Service that is available both before and after surgery.
