Samsung opens academy, ultrasound medical lab in Jordan

AMMAN, February 9, 2015

Samsung Electronics Levant, a leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, has inaugurated the Samsung Academy and Ultrasound Medical Laboratory at University of Jordan.

The firm initiated the endeavour by empowering the academic staff at the academy with the proper training and apparatuses in subjects such as electronics, maintenance of mobiles, audio visual devices and LFDs, in addition to specialised courses in software and networks, said a statement.

Through the academy and the ultrasound medical laboratory, Samsung aims to transform the student’s academic education and experience into an opportunity to develop their technical skills in the electronics field through utilising the technical devices in the dedicated mobiles and AV laboratories at the university.

Bumsuk Hong, president of Samsung Electronics Levant, said: “Samsung Academy’s establishment at the University of Jordan stems from our focal role in supporting the academic journey and our belief in the impact it serve on the practical curriculum.

“As the training courses will enrich the participants’ educational experience, by using Samsung's innovative technologies in addition to enriching their talents”.

As the graduates from the academy become certified technicians, enabling them to pursue a career opportunity at Samsung or any of its partners in Jordan, the co-operation between Samsung and the University of Jordan embodies the importance of integration between the educational and private sectors to give students the opportunity to develop their technical skills, and keep pace with the evolving labor market and employment requirements, said the statement.

The Samsung Academy and ultrasound medical laboratories were inaugurated earlier in December 2014, with the presence of University of Jordan president professor Ikhlaif Tarawneh and Hong.

Located on a 400-sq-m space at King Abdullah II School for Information Technology, the Samsung Academy has three sections - the R&D department, Service Center, and Samsung lounge, an area dedicated for students to study and have a break between lectures, in addition to the Samsung IT Lab previously opened in 2013 equipped with the latest devices from Samsung.

The Ultrasound laboratory is equipped with the latest medical X-Ray machines to provide faculty and students of medicine at the University of Jordan the practical experience and to serve the needs of the university hospital in case of emergency and overcrowding. - TradeArabia News Service
