Sharjah Museums to hold open day
Sharjah, February 22, 2010
Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), an independent government department, will organise an open house day aiming to communicate with individuals working in the educational field in the emirate.
The third Open House Day for Educators will be held on February 24 at Sharjah Maritime Museum.
The initiative, which is hosted by SMD’s Department of Interpretation and Education, is part of SMD’s ongoing efforts to strengthen awareness about the Emirate’s array of museums.
“Sharjah Museums Department provides a range of educational programmes for adults across its 17 museums,” said Mona Bin Hussain, academic and adult programmes manager.
“These include tours, gallery talks and workshops, which are held every Saturday in different museums. Gallery talks and workshops offer an excellent opportunity to learn about and discover new insights into SMD's extensive collections and to discuss ideas and concerns with museum professionals,” she added.
The Open House Day will provide information on physical accessibility of museums, the various programmes and opportunities for universities, and programmes for learning outside of formal education, such as weekend family workshops and adult gallery talks, she said.
“SMD’s staff will address questions and provide information regarding its various programmes covering fine arts, natural history and botany, archaeology, Islamic history and arts, the historic houses and museums of Sharjah Heritage Area, and the new Sharjah Aquarium and Sharjah Maritime Museum,” added Mona Bin Hussain. – TradeArabia News Service
