Dubai, Canada universities sign deal

Dubai, December 3, 2007

Canadian University of Dubai (CUD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of New Brunswick (UNB) - the first English speaking university in Canada.

Canadian University of Dubai is a full subsidiary of Emirates Investment and Development Company PSC (Emivest).

The MoU was signed by executive vice-president of CUD Garth Jackson and vice-president of Saint John Campus (UNB) Kathryn Hamer. The signing was attended by several distinguished faculty and administrative staff of UNB and CUD.

“At CUD, quality programmes selected for their suitability to the region are delivered by highly qualified faculty. CUD is a multicultural university which attracts students comprising many different nationalities, and who come from many different countries as well as from the UAE and Gulf region, to study here,” said Jackson.

“With this agreement in place, our students will get a chance to transfer credits to UNB if they so desire. We will also develop joint programs at undergraduate and graduate levels, and promote collaborative research. We are also encouraged by the Canadian Senior Trade Commissioner and the Canadian Embassy to support associations with local institutions,” added Jackson.

“CUD is a portal to Canadian Education in Dubai, and as a Canadian institution, UNB is very happy to be associated with a local venture of this stature, which is being backed by investors who are fully committed to giving the Canadian education the right exposure and development,” said Hamer. – TradeArabia News Service
