Abu Dhabi's trade in aluminium hits $707m in seven months

ABU DHABI, September 28, 2018

Abu Dhabi's trade in aluminum has surged to around Dh2.6 billion ($707 million) during the first seven months of 2018, corroborating the prestigious position enjoyed by the emirate in particular and the country in general across this industry, reported state news agnecy Wam, citing official data.

The UAE capital's trade in the metal represents around 2.6 per cent of its total non-oil trade during the period from January until the end of July 2018, which hit a total of Dh94.1 billion, according to the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

The emirate trade in aluminium doubled in 2017, surging to Dh5.4 billion according to Scad statistics, with the merger of the two flagship state aluminum firms, Emirates Aluminium (Emal) and Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), making the new firm the world's fifth largest producer of the metal, stated the report.

During the first seven months of the year, the emirate exported around Dh2.1 billion in aluminum in addition to re-exports of Dh160 million and Dh458 worth of imports, it added.
