ACES Jeddah and ACES Khobar have successfully completed the marine (offshore) geotechnical investigation for the reverse osmosis water desalination plant in Shoaiba, Saudi Arabia.

 

The Shoaiba power and desalination plant is an oil-fired combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) complex on the coast of the Red Sea, about 120 km south of Jeddah. It is considered one of the world's largest fossil fuel power plants, and the world's third largest integrated water and power plant.

 

ACES' scope of work included drilling six boreholes to a depth of 10 m below seabed, conducting extensive laboratory testing including sieve analysis, classification, unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and direct shear, as well as detailed environmental testing of the soil and water samples. The project utilised the marine jack up pontoons and rotary drill rigs available in the ACES Saudi Arabia fleet.

 

The main contractor for the project is Fisia Abeima and the owner is Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).
