New system for industrial building projects in Dubai

DUBAI, March 13, 2018

The Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality has launched a new system to register contractors in a bid to simplify procedures for owners and customers in the industrial buildings sector of the local market, said a report.

The new system will allow a contractor to design industrial buildings and supervise their implementation without the need to appoint a consultancy office, reported state news agency Wam.

This move will facilitate the quick completion of projects and reduce costs, while opening doors for investment, it said.

Layali Al Mulla, director of the Buildings Department, said that the department endeavours to learn about the best international practices, develop them and then apply them to construction projects within the emirate.

She pointed out that the number of industrial projects submitted for building licences in the traditional system was 233 during 2017, and that the new system, based on feasibility studies, will reduce the cost of projects by more than six per cent and reduce their implementation time at least 25 per cent, which will benefit the owners and increase and encourage investment.

Al Mulla noted that the department will start conducting seminars on March 26, to introduce the new initiative to building owners and contractors and present the benefits of the new system.
