Al Tayer discusses key issues with senior GE officials.

Dewa, GE to boost co-operation

DUBAI, February 17, 2018

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) held discussions with technology giant General Electric (GE) to boost co-operation in developing services and projects to enhance its position as one of the best utilities in the world.
 
The duo met during the recently held World Government Summit 2018, and discussed co-operation in digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, energy efficiency, smart grids, innovation, energy storage, and other technologies to improve efficiency in the production, transmission and distribution of energy and water.
 
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing managing director and CEO of Dewa, welcomed a high-level delegation from GE that included Azeez Mohammed, the president and CEO of GE's Power Conversion, and Dr Dalya Al Muthanna, the president and CEO of GE Gulf. 
 
During the meeting, Al Tayer presented Dewa's key projects and programmes including the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and its efforts in research and development (R&D), drones, and 3D printing. 
 
He highlighted Dewa’s achievements in Shams Dubai initiative, which aims to encourage building owners to install photovoltaic systems to generate electricity and connect them to Dewa’s grid.
 
Al Tayer also discussed the 250 MW hydroelectric pumped-storage station that will make use of the water stored in the Hatta Dam, which is the first of its kind in the GCC countries. 
 
He also referred to the feasibility study that Dewa launched to develop a 400 MW hydroelectric pumped-storage island.
 
GE delegation presented the latest solutions, technologies, and R&D efforts, especially in AI, robotics, and energy efficiency.
 
The meeting was attended by HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, secretary general of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Abdul Rahim Sultan, director - World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO).-TradeArabia News Service
