RTA in deal to operate Dubai JLT car parks

DUBAI, November 6, 2017

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with DMCC, a leading free zone for trade and enterprise and master developer of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) district in the UAE emirate.

The agreement underscores RTA’s commitment to cement relationship with developers in Dubai aiming to achieve an integrated traffic system and promote the use of mass transit systems in the emirate.

The agreement calls for managing and operating car parks for visitors at the JLT to streamline parking in the area that is witnessing high occupancy rate. It helps provide the largest number of parking slots for users, remarked Maitha bin Adai, the CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA after signing the agreement with Ahmed bin Sulayem, the executive chairman of DMCC.

According to her, the parking space in the JLT will be activated in two stages.

"The first stage, which will be activated this year covers 1,936 parking slots classified into different zones. About 460 parking slots will be provided in the second stage extending up to 2020," she stated.

"There will be no seasonal parking permits for this area as residential parking are provided within the blocks," she added.

Bin Adai pointed out that the payment of parking fees in the area would be through smart means including text messages and RTA Dubai App according to specific categories and fees per zone, from 8am to 10pm from Saturday to Thursday.

"It includes the provision of parking slots at the entrance of blocks as well as roadside parking slots at a rate of Dh4 per hour. Premium parking will be provided at a rate of Dh10 per hour for three hours maximum," she noted.

"Other parking slots will be offered at a rate of Dh4 per hour with no maximum parking period set. Several parking slots have been provided for people of determination at the entrances of blocks," she added.

Bin Sulayem said JLT is a vibrant community, where over 92,500 people live and work every day. "As a master developer of the community, we continuously seek to provide new solutions that will make everyday life in JLT more convenient and efficient for everyone."

"We are pleased to collaborate with the RTA to roll out the latest in technology with this new smart parking scheme in our community, another next step in line with our Smart District strategy for JLT," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
