Diamond unveils big Sustainable City energy savings
DUBAI, October 26, 2017
UAE-based Diamond Developers said its 46-hectare Sustainable City venture in Dubai had successfully saved 1,402 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions through water recycling, electric mobility, and solar energy production.
The Sustainable City, the Middle East’s first fully operational sustainable community, is a joint venture UAE-based Diamond Developers and See Nexus.
The company revealed the results of one year of Sustainable City monitoring during the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2017) which concluded yesterday (October 25).
The Sustainable City took part in the expo for the second consecutive year with the biggest stand at the exhibition. The three-day event was held under the theme ‘At the Forefront of Sustainability’.
Faris Saeed, the CEO of Diamond Developers, said: "Since October 2016, See Nexus has been monitoring all operations at The Sustainable City to assess performance. The results so far reveal that water recycling, electric mobility, and solar energy production have saved 1,402 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
"This is equivalent to 157,769 gallons of gasoline consumption avoided," he stated.
"Specifically, The Sustainable City has recycled 63,444 cu m of greywater, equivalent to 25 Olympic-size swimming pools, driven 179,000 km in electric buggies, equivalent to five times around the equator, and diverted 87 per cent of its waste from landfills, equivalent to 18 tennis courts," added Saeed.
For the outstanding success of its sustainable solutions, The Sustainable City was recognised at Wetex 2017 with a prestigious Emirates Energy Award for large-scale distributed solar generation.-TradeArabia News Service
