Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company Masdar is showcasing its growing clean energy portfolio both in the UAE and global at the 19th annual Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex) which opened today (October 23) in Dubai.

As a strategic sponsor, Masdar will play a key role at the three-day event highlighting its innovative projects in water desalination and waste-to-energy production, said a statement from the company.

It will also address conference delegates on critical issues such as clean-tech innovation, renewable energy desalination options for the UAE, opportunities and challenges for the development of smart cities, and the next stage of urban evolution, it stated.

Bader Al Lamki, the executive director, Clean Energy, Masdar, said: "Our global energy systems are witnessing a period of tremendous change, with the adoption of renewable energy and clean technologies continuing to accelerate."

"Thanks to its visionary leadership, the UAE is at the forefront of the region’s efforts to integrate clean energy sources in a commercially viable way, while helping to mitigate climate change," he noted.

Masdar, he stated, was proud to be a strategic partner of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), and for supporting the realisation of Dubai’s 2050 Clean Energy Strategy.

"Through platforms such as Wetex and Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the UAE is catalysing opportunities for governments and businesses to work together to drive the growth of renewable energy, clean technologies and water sustainability solutions across the world," remarked Al Lamki.

Over the last decade, Masdar has been at the forefront of the renewable energy industry, and today has more than 2.8 gigawatts of projects in operation or under development globally.

On its Wetex plans, Al Lamki said Masdar will be showcasing several key projects including the 800 MW third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai and its own joint venture with Bee’ah, the Emirati waste-to-energy company, which is developing the first waste-to-energy plant in the region.

Also on display will be Masdar's cutting-edge seawater desalination pilot programme in Ghantoot, UAE, and Shams 1, the largest CSP project in operation in the UAE.

Masdar’s international portfolio incorporates projects in more than 20 countries, including the 30 MW Hywind Scotland, which was inaugurated last week, becoming the world’s first commercial-scale floating wind farm, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
