NICC wins Qatar mixed-use project contract

Qatar-based Al Wa’ab City (AWC) has awarded the infrastructure works contract for its central district to National Industrial Contracting Company (NICC), said a report.

One of the largest privately-held real estate projects being developed in the country, AWC is spread over a sprawling 1.2-million-sq-m area in the very heart of Al Wa’ab area.

Following a masterplan redesign, the central district, named Al Wa’ab Central provides a vast range of apartments complemented by a lively boulevard, animated public spaces, community courtyards, and diverse hospitality, retail, and leisure offerings, all within a walking distance.

The infrastructure works at the central district of AWC will start this month and is likely to be completed within 18 months, reported The Peninsula.

On the contract win, Kamal Efrangy, the chief executive of NICC, said: "It is a privilege to be an active participant in the making of such a project. We look forward to working closely with the developer and the owners to deliver what will be the most attractive urban center in the city."

With a true sense of place, combining an authentic Arabian feel with modernity, it incorporates a diverse residential mix of over 2,000 villas and apartments, more than 200,000 sq m of commercial space and over 100,000 sq m of retail space, including a one-of-a-kind concept mall, he added.
